sickle cellThe Sickle Cell Society have partnered with the Sylvia Adams Charitable Trust on the Breaking Down Barriers Project, in order to provide their service users with sickle cell information and support in French and Portuguese.

After referencing the most widely spoken languages in the UK with ethnic groups that experience a higher incidence of SCD we found that we needed to prioritise translation into French and Portuguese. This will enable them to not only understand the nature of their condition, but also what help, support and care is available for them through our helpline and our services.breaking down barriers

The Breaking Down Barriers Project aims to improve the standard of support and information of our French and Portuguese speaking service users by gaining a greater understanding of the impact the language barriers have on those living with a genetic condition.

Our helpline services are available nationwide and our resources will be available worldwide through our blog; www.sicklecellsociety.org/breaking-down-barriers/
